Ain’t no gig like a Tall Ships gig.

July 11th, 2011 | By admin

Just occasionally you get to be part of something big. Or something tall in this case.

We loved our Tall Ships gig!  We loved being on a massive stage covered in massive speakers while getting our skin melted by a massive lighting rig. We loved the fact that it was the same stage the Saw Doctors had just performed on and that the legend that is K T Tunstall would perform on the next day.

As always a huge thanks to all the folk that came out to see us and thanks to Neil for all the work he does organising such quality events.

No pressure, Neil but we’d very much like to do that again sometime!

So folks we’re taking a peedie break from gigging right now to have our Lobster baby.  Looking forward to our comeback gig already!

Laters! Our lead singer's a bit of an athlete, don't you know!

Lobsters To Play Tall Ships Gig

May 20th, 2011 | By admin

The Stereo Lobsters are set to be the meat in a beautiful Saw Doctors and KT Tunstall sandwich!

To celebrate the presence of an impressive number of tall ships in Orkney there is going to be a music festival in a marquee in Jewson’s Yard.

A bit of Saw Doctors on the Friday, a bit of KT Tunstall on the Sunday, but the date and time you guys will surely be needing will be 9pm, Sat Jul 16th. With the help of a full lighting rig and pro sound guy the Lobsters will be kicking off the show in style with Orkney’s very own Fat Elvis on hand to take it home.

Tickets are available from Grooves and Ticket Scotland on 22nd of May.

Looking forward to seeing you there, folks.

If you’ve not heard Dave Morrison yet, you’ve been missing out! The fantastic singer songwriter, who is based in our very own Orkney, has just released his ‘Coffee Cups’ EP, available on iTunes now. Don’t just take our word for it! Have a listen to the previews! (Not to mention some of the tracks feature Lobster instrumentals in the background. What more could you ask for?!)

Lobster Finds Love!

May 19th, 2011 | By admin

Since the Stereo Lobsters got together, all of a year and a half ago, two of the Lobsters have got married, one is currently engaged and we’ve got a baby Lobster on the way an’ all! Good Times!

Here’s a pic from the latest one, Andy & Kate’s wedding. Kate & Andy's Wedding (Doo-dah!)

PS – Apologies for the huge lack of updates on the website of late. Turns out getting married takes up a fair bit of time!

It’s Stronsay Time!!!

March 22nd, 2011 | By admin

28/05/11 @ The Stronsay Hall – 9pm(ish)

Words do not describe how happy we are to finally find a date that we can get out to Stronsay! This is definitely a ‘home fixture’ for some of our band members who’ve spent many a happy year living there! This’ll be our last gig before we take a break to rear our Lobster child. Likely the last of 2012, so we want to go out with a bang and prove the age old saying: ‘STRONSAY IS MASSIVE!!!’

Let’s get all the Stronsay folk past and present at this one! It’ll be some good to see you all!

Stronsay is MASSIVE!

Is the Royal Getting Smaller…?!

March 21st, 2011 | By admin

Not even room to breathe at this gig! A cracking return to Stromness for us courtesy of our friends at the Royal. A big thanks to all you folk from the West for making it another fun and frolic filled night for all of us.

Personal favourite moment of the night was Lobsters’ manager and commander in chief Mark Berry carrying Andy’s synth as Andy was playing it due to a shortage of space on the stage! Tricksy, one might say.

Dear Westray…

March 2nd, 2011 | By admin

Dear Westray,

A big thanks for coming to the gig and for raising £2648.55, (roughly), for the Scottish Cot Death Trust. We had a cracking weekend out there which hopefully won’t be the last. A huge thanks to Helen Bain and Shelagh Hutchison for organising the event and just generally being heroes. Highlights included the creels on the stage, Stereo Lobsters written on every balloon, Lobster decorations round the hall, oh and putting us up for the weekend. A huge thanks to all the folks that came out to see us and made it the event that it was and apologies to the folks that were turned away at the boats. We’ll have to get an extra ones put on next time!

                                                                                                                                                       A big thanks again,

                                                                                                                                                                                            The Stereo Lobsters.

Hockey Fun At The Legion!

January 30th, 2011 | By admin

And fun it was! Sadly we forgot the Lobster-cam for this gig, so our only source of photos was long-range iphone. Boo. A big thanks to all you dancers, think some of the ’retired’ hockey players might have pipped some of you younger generation at the post though. Only saying like… Don’t shoot the messenger… When Hockey and Lobsters collide!

Also a big shout out to Kirsty Gilb, for organising this one with much skills and also for being a quality lobster supporter along with the rest of her familiars. Cheers, Kirsty!

Next stop Westray!!!

Gogo Lobsters Rocks Matchies!!!

January 10th, 2011 | By admin

‘We have GOT to do this again!’

Those were the words on a lot of lips when this gig was through. If you missed out on this gig, you really missed out!!!

Gogo Olive - A charity helping women in Zimbabwe use their craft skills to make enough money to support themselves and their families, teamed up with the Stereo Lobsters – purveyors of music that you can’t help but dance to, and what a night it was. Gogo Lobsters!!!

Not only did we have ourselves a gig which some of the Lobsters described as ‘The best one yet!‘… not only did we have a knitwear theme with some crackin’ Christmas jumpers on display… not only were the band given ‘Shamwari Lobsters’ (click on the Gogo Olive link to find out more about the charity and their knitting)… not only was Matchies completely full… BUTWe made an amazing £2400 for Gogo Olive!!! Yesssss!!! A heartfelt thanks for to everyone who supported the event.
